Mike flew out to Hong Kong to meet me at the end of my Fall '08 work trip, and we rented a condo in Discovery Bay for a week. Went on an all-day hike on Lantau Island, and got to see a lot of cool HK stuff... even rode the ferry to Macau for a couple of nights!

We arrived at the Mandarin Hotel in Quanzhou on Sunday. It's a beautiful new hotel, and in a different part of town than the hotel we used to stay in, so I got to see parts of the city I'd never seen before. Since it was early in the afternoon and we didn't have any appointments that day, a few of us took a cab to a Buddhist temple near the shopping district for a little sight seeing.

We were only supposed to be in this area for two nights, and then fly back to Shanghai for a night before heading south to Fuzhou. One the day we were scheduled to leave, Typhoon Wipha hit and cancelled all flights out of Huangyan Airport. News reports were calling it a "super typhoon" and over 200,000 people have evacuated, but we are safe.

This started out as a business trip to PhotoshopWorld 2007, but turned into a vacation when I was able to extend my stay by a few days and get Mike a free airline ticket using my Skymiles. We stayed at three different hotels around Vegas, and took a day trip out to see Death Valley National Park.
